Studies have shown that spending time outdoors in nature and merely looking at photos of nature has a healing propensity. A 2015 study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health found that spending just five minutes looking at images of nature helped the body recover from stress. Being surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature reduces blood pressure and helps the immune system fight off illness. Spending time in or living near green spaces reduces risk of various illnesses according to University of East Anglia, including type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease, premature death, preterm birth, stress, and high blood pressure.
